Born in village Alah,
Jammu Province of Jammu and Kashmir on 25th of May, 1947. Passed MBBS in 1969
from Medical College, Srinagar through J&K University. Completed houseman ship
in Ortho & CTVS from AIIMS in 1969-70 and joined as Junior Resident, General
Surgery in March, 1970 and qualified in M.S. General Surgery in May 1975(Was
First M.Ch from J&K). Joined as Lecturer Surgery in Government Medical College,
Jammu in May, 1975 and progressed through stages to become Professor of Surgery
in GMC, Jammu in 1983. Became Principal/ Dean GMC, Jammu in April, 1998.
Contributed significantly to the clinical surgical care especially of children
and newborns and Medical Education as clinician and development of the Medical
Education as Principal. Is life Member of Northern Chapter Association of
Surgeons of India, Association of Surgeons of India and Association of Paed.
Surgeons of India, organized annual congress of NCASI in 1996 and was elected
President of NCASI. Was elected President North West Indian Paed. Surgery Club(a
chapter of APSI) in 2004 at P.G. Chandigarh. Has been Dean Faculty of Medicine
Jammu University for over seven years and member of Standing Academic Committee,
University Syndicate and University Council of Jammu University at various
terms. Has been member of Standing Academic Committee SKIMS, Soura. Acted as
expert in the selection panel of Faculty Members, AIIMS. Has been nominated as
Member of Institute Body of Prestigious PGIMER, Chandigarh by Ministry of
Health, Govt. of India from 2003 to 2008 and is member Standing Academic
Committee of PGI, Chandigarh. Acted as UG/PG examiner for the Universities of
Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and U.P. Has been associated with various
research projects at AIIMS and Medical College, Jammu and presented papers in
various regional and national conferences. Has published about 30 scientific
papers in journals and about half of them are in international journals. Has
guided more than twenty five postgraduates in M.S. General Surgery.
Joined as Member, Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission in May, 2006.
Is associated with a Philanthropic organization for providing free health care
to poor and needy.
